People shroud in fear and superstition, and some actually seem to think they have bad luck when this day arrives. In all actionality Friday 13th holds a keen lesson in the ultimate power of collective energy and belief. Through the wisdom of Within: To Believe or Not to Believe and the practical guidance of Within Self Workbook; One can began to see that all energies are a collective and one only needs to Go Within and Discover Who You Truly Are to reclaim this day as one of transformation, empowerment, and unity without the negative narrative and its influences.

The Origin of Power of Friday 13th

The origin of this day of dread is thought to have begun within the religious and mythological communities. The roots of the negativity grow deep into history of time. The seed that was sewn are different methods, however, the negativity stays the same.

Religious and Mythological Roots

Christian Tradition:

In Christianity, the negativity was harnessed by beliefs starting with the Last Supper, that was attended by Jesus and his 12 apostles. Within this supper was the well-known Judas Iscariot. Judas was the 13th guest and he also ended up being known as the betrayer of Jesus. This association with betrayal and misfortune gave the number 13 a negative undertone. Moreover, Jesus was thought to have been crucified on a Friday, which was already unfavored and considered an inauspicious day in medieval Christian Europe. The unfavored Fridays spawned from the pope announcing to not eat meat on Fridays. Many not knowing why they shouldn’t eat meat on Fridays and instead had to eat fish, made things seem a little “fishy” giving that day of the week a suspicious and profound collective energy. The mixture of an "unlucky" number with a suspicious Friday sewed the seed in the superstition.

Norse Mythology:

Norse mythology has another take on the number 13.  Due to the story of Loki crashing a banquet in Valhalla began the unlucky error of thirteen because Loki was the 13th guest. He was known to have caused chaos that led to the death of Balder, the beloved god of light and joy. This took root assigning Loki with titles such as “The Master of Deception” and Betrayal, once again highlighting the number 13 as ominous in Northern European traditions.

The Knights Templar:

The Knights Templar is an historic event that occurred in 1307 on yet a Friday 13th.  On October 13, 1307, King Philip IV of France called for the arrest of the Knights Templar, a powerful and wealthy Catholic military order. Within this order hundreds of Templars were imprisoned, tortured, and executed underneath direct accusations of heresy. The negativity and horrific things that occurred and surrounded this event yet again marked Friday the 13th as a particularly bad day in European history.

Insertions of Friday 13th

Due to the compiled negative events that have occurred over time other fears and concerns have come fourth. Just as legends carry roots so do the energies that surround them.

Numerological Fear of 13

In modern day numerology, 12 is often seen as a symbol of completeness. Most things come in the sets of 12. Things such as 12 eggs in a carton, 12 months in a year, 12 Zodiac Signs and of course the 12 apostles. The number 12 has become commonly complete and the number 13, being one more, is the odd ball out. Collectively the number 13 has become perceived as irregular and disruptive. With news traveling as quick as it does, negative relations to the number began to follow. Many cultures avoided the number entirely. For example, some buildings skip labeling the 13th floor, and some airlines avoid having a 13th row of seats.

Reinforcements for Superstitions

So, as you can see throughout history, Friday has been associated with many misfortunes, as it was the day for public hangings in Britain and was considered unlucky to begin journeys or important work. The combination of the two, Friday and the number 13 created a superstition reinforced by fear-based storytelling and collective beliefs that has passed through each generation.

In modern times, popular cultures have played its role of reinforcements toward the boardwalk to negativity in publications such as; the 1907 book “Friday the Thirteenth” by: Thomas W. Lawson and the horror film “Friday the 13th”. These reinforcements combined has turned the superstition into a cultural phenomenon.

The Collective Power of Belief

As my book Within; guides others to see our reality is shaped by collective beliefs and societal programming. The fear surrounding Friday the 13th is a prime example of how myths, historical events, and numerological fears have created a global narrative of dread. This collective energy perpetuates itself, making the day an emblem of negativity.

Once we understand the origins of these beliefs, we can question them and recognize their true nature. More importantly change the outcomes. Since energy cannot be destroyed, by understanding where these energies have formed in the first place, we can gain the ultimate power to transmute them first starting within ourselves.

Just as the collective of negative events and belief has compiled together throughout time, has built the dreadful energy that comes with Friday 13th, we have the power to transmute this energy into a positive time for transformation and understanding. Ultimately disconnecting our energy fields from the negative source altogether. Although the energy of it is not destroyed it is completely disconnected from self, leaving it dead and non-existent to our reality. The more people who do this and gain understanding of the origins and insertions of this so-called bad luck day, the more it is understood and no longer feared, rendering it powerless and no longer effective.

A Collective Shift

Energy is never stagnant; it is meant to be transmuted and redirected. Simply put: “Friday the 13th reflects what we believe it to be. Break the chains of inherited fear and see it for what it is: a blank canvas to paint with the energy of your choosing. Let us collectively choose love, understanding, courage, and transformation.”

Coming together collectively we can rewrite the story of Friday the 13th; not as a day of dread, but as a celebration of humanity’s ability to awaken, transform, rise together and take back our power of our Greatest Versions!
